Francesco Murano
Francesco Murano, born in 1997 in Buccino (Salerno), graduated from IED Milan in 2019 with a degree in Fashion Design. His collection, “ Ossimoro Plastico”, won the 5th edition of Milano Moda Graduate and earned the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana Fashion Award. At the time, Zerina Akers, Beyoncé’s stylist, noticed the brand’s pieces and selected a few, including the Oxymoron Dress, which the star wore to Roc Nation’s pre-Grammy brunch in January 2020. Since then, the brand has been featured on artists like Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Rosie HuntingtonWhiteley, Madonna, Amelia Gray, Irina Shayk, and Zendaya. In the fall of that year, Murano also won the 16th edition of “Who is On Next?,” a scouting project promoted by Altaroma and Vogue Italia. From there, he founded his brand and began developing his collections, which caught the attention of stylists and fashion stakeholders. In May 2024, he received a grant from the CNMI Fashion Trust, an initiative that provides financial support to emerging brands, a grant that was later confirmed in 2025. In December, supermodel Anok Yai, wearing a white dress from the FW2425 collection, was photographed by Rafael Pavarotti for the cover of Vogue Italia. Since February 2025, Murano has showcased his collections during Milan Fashion Week. In March, he was announced as a finalist for the 2025 LVMH Prize, and at the end of that year he received the Altagamma Young Entrepreneur 2025 Award. His eponymous brand was born out of a passion for design, classical art, and the Baroque, exploring their contradictions and the possible harmony between the rational and the irrational, between the Apollonian and the Dionysian. The manufacturing technique becomes a symbol of this apparent dichotomy. The Apollonian is reflected in the precision of tailored blazers, while the Dionysian manifests in draping created using the ancient technique of moulage. Traditional methods are reinterpreted and applied to contemporary silhouettes. High-quality materials, sourced from men’s wardrobe staples, are adapted to the lines of the female body, enhancing a conscious and refined physicality. The draping, like the constructions on paper patterns, is not just a technique but a symbol of inner strength. Francesco Murano aims to create unique, personal garments for women, crafted according to the rules of “tailoring,” highlighting their Made in Italy heritage, where formal perfection and meticulous shaping are key elements of the brand
